Shit happens when you don't actually own your own property.

Wonder if this happened with open source android phones as well or if it was just vendor controlled android.

Goolag's response (from the article):

“We have been working with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to allow users to activate the Exposure Notifications System directly from their Android phone settings. This functionality is built into the device settings and is automatically distributed by the Google Play Store, so users don’t have to download a separate app. COVID-19 Exposure Notifications are enabled only if a user proactively turns it on. Users decide whether to enable this functionality and whether to share information through the system to help warn others of possible exposure.”

unGoogle your phone.

Its pretty evil... it turns on bluetooth periodically to ping proximity of other devices also running app to create a social exposure database of all people you know or meet or walk by in stores and restaurants.

It drains batteries. its beyond evil, and other low level services were put in last may as a sdk but needed an app to enable, prior.

Calyxos or grapheneos. Hell even lineageos without playstore would be better.

The "conveniences" we're being sold via phones and smart devices, really don't improve your life that much. They're just expensive trinkets that forfeit our privacy and rights. I'd love to be able to use my pinephone as a daily driver but it's not quite their yet. I'm on the fence about switching to a flip phone but idk how much longer those will be supported.

Look into "Amazon sidewalk" if you haven't heard of that yet.
