FUN FACT : a sleeping fawn parked in your garden by momma deer is UNDETECTABLE by scent from your dog!
If you start looking for baby deer, you spot them every summer, the more you look for baby deer in your yard or nearby woods. Baby deer hide merely by curing up motionless and you almost step on them all the time!
MY DOGS would not even notice scent-less baby deer even if I dragged the dog two feet away and pointed the dogs head.
INVISIBLE to dogs, and only visible to humans obsessed with looking for them.

Only problem with that is their instincts will randonly kick in and they'll get a bit violent and throw down on you.

Others write the same facts, so I am not alone :

I can only assume evolution hides baby deer from wolves and coyotes, and this extends to family dog being unable to notice them.
