Hope like stoicism is really just suicide

submitted by jimbeam2 to whatever 4 yearsJun 3, 2021 06:23:32 ago (+13/-2)     (whatever)*

Because it represents complacency. It is an inward turning in search of meaning
in the face of crisis--rather than an outward turning to confront the challenges
of the world and our times. To align the world with our ideal, externalizing the will
through action and higher cause--this is the answer, and not 'hope'.

All those who push stoicism like Evola (from a literal glance at someone's recent suggestion of "ride the tiger"), are just selling you the poison of "do nothing because you have no power to change anything except yourself."

It's a vicious lie.

You have no power to change anything by yourself.

Understand the difference.

Theres a reason the symbol of fascism is an axe in a bundle of branches.

Stoicism helps me face the challenges of my day. Maybe you’re applying the teachings incorrectly to your life. Perspective is a huge part of bettering oneself.

Perspective is a huge part of bettering oneself.

If I am reading him right, OP is saying we can't win by 'bettering ourselves', and that 'looking inward' is really just further neutering of our race.

I very much agree with this.

You didn't address any of the points he made. If anything, you confirmed what he said, that stoicism and hope just condition your feelz, when you said stoicism helps muh feelz everyday. Abandon your inner citidel and build an actual citidel.

I have a secluded farm and am almost completely self sufficient. My wife is going to give birth to our first around Halloween. I’ve built quite an empire for myself and my family.

My method worked wonders for me, bringing me from nothing in turmoil to the greatness I have today. When shit hits the fan and the grocery store goes empty my family will be better off than most.

That's awesome. Sounds like you don't need stoicism at all.

Good job missing the point, smoothbrain.

The whole quote is "Ride the tiger, but be ready to kill it when it slows down".

Meaning: Make the best of a bad situation in the short term in order to better be able to strike when the iron is hot. Use the clown world to prepare to end the clown world.

If you're stuck in a relatively low income job but getting by? Get on EBT/medicare and use the money you're now saving on food/healthcare to arm up. If you're applying to go to school, pretend to be a genderqueer faggot "white Hispanic" and up your odds of acceptance and getting grants/scholarships.

All too often has a struggle been lost because one side blindly adhered to excessive honor. This is a fight for our lives and the lives of our people, be ready to fight dirty or be ready to die.

People often misuse the words hope and faith. Hope is a passive noun and faith is an active noun. The distinction is important. Faith is the proactive engagement and execution of hope. Hope is the belief supporting some alternative, within the realm of all possible futures.

It is important to have both faith and hope. You should also develop and exercise charity, so you don’t become a monster while you act out your faith.

I think you've badly misunderstood stoicism. The point isn't to do nothing, it's to be in control of yourself so you can control your environment.

Have a look at this and see if it doesn't change your perception of Stoicism a bit.

the axe in the bundle of sticks is a symbol from way back in roman times. It represents the rule of law in rome. The sticks are symbols for the punishments you receive for breaking the law, the axe represents the death sentence. Within Rome, for Romans, the bundle didnt include an axe, as there was no death sentence for born Romans. Expulsion was the most severe punishment a roman citizen could have to endure.

As for stoicism being a poison... it depends on you, how you use it. Know which battles to fight.

I don't think that's accurate about the death sentence. Plenty of roman citizens were executed by various means. Often being thrown from the Tarpeian rock or strangled in the Tulianum. Famously when Rome lost the battle of Cannae two vestal virgins were accused of violating their vow and they were executed by being buried alive with their lovers.

I suspect originally the axe wasn't carried though and the fasces was a practical crowd control instrument like a baton is today. A bundle of narrow rods is a good way to inflict pain without actually injuring someone.

weird theory... the sticks are as thick as the axe handle in all depictions i have seen.

but yes, it could well be that romans didnt always act the same way. rome lasted longer than our electrified modern age, so of course things changed.

I've seen all kinds of reconstructions of fasces, most of them are as you say, the sticks are huge and the reenactors have to carry them like logs. It's completely impractical and if a criminal were running away or resisting lawmen, they'd have to pick between doing their job or abandoning their badge of office. By contrast a small bundle of rods is a very cheap and handy tool to subdue someone, hence my suspicion that's what they originally were. Also, given that weapons were banned within the pomerium it probably placed unusual requirements on Roman law enforcers compared to other cities.

I restricted myself to republican rome for that reason, since the empire was essentially a different civilisation. Even so, that's several centuries of history and law changed dramatically during that time.

Incidentally I would strongly support a legal system based on the threat of exile as punishment. What period of Roman history were you referring to when you said that?

nonono, you got something completely wrong here: each individual "policeman" carried a single stick, the bundle was only made and presented on festivities XD

Ah! Gotcha. I've never heard about that before.

The story of Pandora's box is usually misrepresented. Hope wasn't meant to be a blessing, but a final curse. Hope alone in the face of every earthly evil is torture, becuase hope alone can never change anything. That said, @Goatboy has the right idea.

Agree, but the bundle of faggots that are the Boomers will not. They are so sackless, so spineless, so cowardly they won't even give up the most minor of creature comforts (e.g., their cell phones) to fight this war. They're sackless worthless vile filthy fucking losers, and they deserve exactly what the get....

Most of us see through the (((anti-boomerism))) by now. When we are old, the zoomers will have some witty saying about us too, I imagine.

All to further split us apart from our ancestors.
