They rotted people brains decades ago when they actually convinced them that they had to specifically drink 8 glasses of water a day, and it just so happened that companies were marketing bottled water, lots of bottled water.

At the same time they were yammering on about how the old people were all living so long and getting pensions too long. Their entire lives they never drank water unless they were thirsty.

The recommended daily amounts of fruit and veg are funny too. There’s no science behind it whatsoever and the amount recommended is motivated purely by how compliant a population is viewed as being. So in Ireland it’s recommended we eat 5 servings of fruit or veg a day as the optimal amount, but for the more compliant Swedes this recommended amount increases to 9 portions a day.
