Anyway, I couldn't figure out why she took it to the water. Did she know to? The only thing I could think of is that it may have been a Water Moccasin (Cottonmouth). That certainly isn't considered your average garden snake.

If it was a cotton mouth it would’ve been chasing whoever was around it. They are extremely aggressive.

My friend's 12 year old daughter likes to go to the park and catch snakes, and can name off the harmless species and where to find them.

Pretty cool that not all kids these days just sit inside playing video games. Her little brother is a whiny pussy though.

Same. Mostly got garters, ring necks, and black racers. I'm the unluckiest fisherman on earth- I've caught more water moccasins than fish, and even hooked an old boot like from a cartoon. Also caught frogs, turtles, various lizards, and ducks. You're right about snapping turtles; got bit by one on the web between my thumb and index.... little fucker.
