In fairness, "satanism" is mostly a thing christians came up with in the same way socialists came up with "rightism." It's a term defined only in opposition which has no tight definition, and which some idiots are stupid enough to internalise and embrace as their identity.
So sure, this guy might have gotten so pissed off with christianity that he started calling himself a satanist.
I don't speak for all Christians, but Satanism has been organized in the modern world since the late 1700s (when Weishaupt founded the illuminati) and branching off into masonry some decades after during the life of Albert Pike. Organized Luciferianism and Satanism have been around in other forms for centuries, probably before the time of Christ. I recommend the book Satan Prince of This World for more info. Christians generalize into uncharacteristically vague assumptions because they are never told the full truth, and are too misled to seek it out on their own.
The point being that "satanism" means so many things it's not in any way ridiculous to say it does or doesn't involve animal sacrifice. Most of the groups I've ever come across who adopt satanism were "fuck you dad" types, rather than genuinely religious people.
