This is a country without a citizen's right to bear arms. For some reason, there is a 9pm curfew in France right now and its being enforced with machine guns. This is not about a "virus"

Curfiew are not about controlling a virus because they force everyone to go out and interact at the same time instead of everyone having different schedules. They are counter productive in terms of disease control.

it's not unusual for French police to have automatic rifles and such. French police are federalized and France works very differently from the USA.

Wow; I'm sure glad I live in the Land-o-the-Free where we have "local" police who...are precisely the standing Army the founders feared. The only things "local" about them are the patches on their costumes and the stickers on their cars. They almost invariably have:

1. Data/Comm feeds to the DoJ and the DHS 'fusion centers'.
2. Surplus military weapons in the armory.
3. An MRAP or M-113 in the garage.
4. Isreali "anti-terror training" (we're all Palestinians now!)
5. Orwellian federal propaganda about wars on drugs and 'violence'.
6. A national firearms registry (of legally-owned handguns) in the form of "reciprocity" databases containing all "permits" for concealed-carry.

Let's see just how 'different' things are by the time President Harris takes over. Obama's "civilian defense corps" is BACK, BABY.

They are not shooting citizens, it's all okay. If people comply with police just showing off, then it's their own fault they are sheep.
