Forgiveness and punishment are separate. And yes, you can be forgiven for murder if you're sorry for it. Just because you are forgiven doesn't mean you won't get punished for it. The less a man is judged by man, the more he will be judged by God.

You have to have contrition to be forgiven. There are two types of contrition. Perfect and imperfect contrition. Perfect contrition means you are sorry for offending God because he is all loving and good. This is difficult to have. Imperfect contrition is sorry for your sin because you fear hell and the loss of heaven. This is much more common.
