Depends on your application. It’s entirely subjective, but some music is better in surround, such as the flying fuckface asshole soyboy narcissist Roger Water’s band , Pink Floyd, and many classical compositions- depending on the recording production. Movies are definitely better in surround sound if they are mastered correctly.
Blasting “Reign in Blood” by Slayer at full blast is definitely stereo material. Blasting 50 Cent or Tupac at full blast should be met with gunfire.

fun fact, fuck all music ever gets mixed beyond stereo, i do know some floyd did get 5.1 mixes tho, but that shit is so rare.
and even if it did all these shitty webplayers wouldn't support it, mp3s dont even support 5.1 neither does youtube, its just some shitty hack you are hearing.
if you want 5.1 you need to look for ACC or someshit in the rip file name or just buy the DVDs.
no one really has a fucking clue how to use surround aside people that rip movies.
respectfully, go fuck yourself. I have spent many happy hours creating immersive 5.1 and 7.1 sonic experiences that are blissfull. Couldn't do it with stereo
So, what is that, stereo + center channel + 2 subs? That might be good. It's the side and rear speakers that always ruin surround sound. Center channel speakers and subs are not my enemy.
two subs is dumb, as the wavelength of the bass is such that you get destructive interference between them. Single sub stack, or a line of subs is the way to go
phase control is important in crossovers and basic speaker polarity. No amount of fucking with phase will fix the issue of the wavelength of bass being so large that you get strong consgtructive and destructive inteference between the signals from a L and R stack, _unless_ they are fully stereo and contain different signals, and even then you get a 'power alley' any time there is a coincident frequency peak. faggot
I've mixed a few gigs with a 5.1 surround system, works really well with folk music, you can really create an immersive space with the full array. Great for hippie shit. For electronic, a quad with swapped XY on the rear, and a decent centre speaker (either single point for small gigs, or line arrays on each point for larger ones to get even volume) is pumping. A bit limited in how big a space you can cover. Over 30-40m and your brain stops combining the sounds together and it sounds echoey.
