I'm thinking about getting this vaccine (not out yet)

the entire reason why we were against vaccines so far has been:

- horrible side effects
- experimental gene therapy (mRNA) (although not all of them are mRNA)

this one is a whole-virus, inactivated vaccine. Similar to all the other traditional vaccines we've taken so far. Initial trials have showed almost zero side effects.

redpill me on why this is shit

This would appear to be a vaccine in the traditional sense. All we can go by is the company's claims but assuming they are true then I would feel a lot better about taking this vaccine rather than the others (which aren't actually vaccines).

However I am skeptical. People have been trying to make a vaccine for the common cold -- rhinovirus accounts for about 80% of colds, coronavirus for the rest -- forever without any success, I'm talking zero. I mean it's conceivable this company cracked the secret to it but I'll believe it when I see solid independent confirmation of it.

No vaccine is risk free. People have always had bad to very bad ie. death reactions to vaccines. But generally the numbers are very low, like 1 in a couple hundred thousand. Not the 1 in 133 like we're seeing with the covid vaccines. So even if this new vaccine really is the real deal then it still won't be risk free, but the risk will be much less.

But the most important point is that covid-19 is clearly not a serious disease in the least. Survivability is 99+% and only the elderly and those with co-morbidities are really at risk... which is pretty much the same as every cold/flu season. Up until 2020 the nbr one killer of the elderly was pneumonia. Now there are virtually no cases of pneumonia but instead the elderly are dying of Covid in the exact same numbers. The uptick in the mortality rate -- approx 10% in the USA -- has been pretty firmly tied to issues associate to the lockdowns: mostly suicide and people not getting treated in time for other conditions.

But if I could take a shot that had very low risk attached to it and that protected me from getting a cold with 70+% effectiveness then I'd do it, because colds suck.
