So after spending a few minutes researching this issue, it seems that they have found many prion like proteins (called Prion Like Domains or PLDs) in animals like humans and also other organisms like the yeast the produces alcohol in beer and wine and now, the covid virus. They have been studying yeast for this property. The prion like amino acids seem to have some useful cellular function including RNA function in humans. But if these prion like proteins get folded wrong, they can mutate in to disease causing pathogens that may be implicated in alzheirmers and other neurogenitive conditions.

Some guy found that the spike protein on the covid virus has a prion like protein which may help it to bind more effectively to the human host cell.
