“If it saves just one life it will be worth it” and “you can’t put a value on a human life” are their most annoying cliches. Of course we can put a value on a human life, we do it all the time and it’s an essential measurement in public economics. And saving a single human life at great monetary cost could very plausibly result in many other otherwise avoidable deaths occurring due to lack of funding for treatment. People using catchphrases they think are clever but without ever considering their veracity is one of the most annoying things in the modern world.
