Did anyone get kicked out of the Element/Matrix chatrooms? I noticed that 11 users left our chatrooms and that one of our chatrooms was labeled as "Historical" before I got kicked out of the chatrooms. On top of that, my account got "deactivated". https://files.catbox.moe/2018nt.png

For those who are wondered what happened to the old matrix server, there was a ban-wave 2 weeks back, so we bought our own server and set up our own accounts (non-matrix accounts) that are free from their bullshit ToS

since folks here still have no clue and didn't realize we moved a week ago, i'm a putting a "welcome" room to the new server

so the instructions are super easy:

ditch the matrix.org homeserver and remake your account on the arcanus.ungleich.cloud homeserver insteadand yes, you'll have to make a new account
Go to https://matrix.arcanus.ungleich.cloud/#/group/+oag:arcanus.ungleich.cloud
Save your Security Key or you won't be able to login again.
Join the Newcomers room.

That's like 80% of the active people. I'd say it was some auto-detect faggotry, but the bans happened over the course of about 30 minutes, judging from the below screenshot.

I missed out on the whole situation. My account seemed to be spared somehow even though I've left it logged in for days. It looks like most everyone who was affected made it back. Either way, I finally made an account here now too, for backup and I'm still on WT also.

I've done some research, you can buy a Matrix server for ~$70 a month, and then we own it and aren't bound by their rules. I'm willing to pay for a server for OAG.

I don't think it's a glitch, they might be starting either filtering words and then issuing deactivations OR they might have saw a report on some users in the chat room by someone. But they could have flatout shut the room down.

Not sure really very weird way to do this. But Element is compromised. Shame.

No, you're right, I'm sure there are much cheaper options, but those also require more sysadmin work and maintenance.

Also, $70 is quite normal for a dedicated server. Those cheap options are all shared servers, so you're sharing the machine with (many) other people. And there are often low bandwidth and usage limits. If you want quality then you gotta pay up.
