Does the social ostracization get to anyone else?

I am completely divorced from my family and most of my friends because of my political position. I just had a debate with my roommates about race relations in the U.S. and they became so upset that I was not invited out with them, like I normally would be. I firmly believe that my position is rooted in truth and will not deviate from it just so I can have friends, but doing so does make life lonely.

Can anyone else relate?

I think that many white men are fearful of this ostracization and keep their mouths shut. I'm not even sure if such a group formally exists in the small town where I recently resettled. If I can create one I will happily do so, but such things take time. Here I am still an outsider.

It's a life long lesson. In time you'll have one or two friends left. Hopefully one of them is your spouse.

Back in the day you weren't supposed talk politics or religion because it was considered impolite and asking to piss someone off. It's still impolite, but people have forgotten the rule.

In time you'll realize that even people you think are on your wavelength are not really that similar to you, and you should keep them at arms length.

Yes, but I found the problem was more in my communication than anything else. If your ideas are truly reasonable, you should be able to make them sound reasonable by forcing your listener to reason themselves into your opinions, and not simply presenting the conclusions.

If you'd like to change your mind that's far from your own, you have to explore it a little. You have to let them explain their positions until they don't know what they're saying anymore, then ask "does B explain this better than A does?" You just need to reverse engineer our jokes, and rebuild them differently.

As Titania McGrath said, "trans surgery is inherently transphobic because it's rooted in cissexist ideas of how people's bodies should look." You can guide them through the Socratic method to duplicate this absurdity themselves, and during their confusion you can offer a better understanding.

Or you can just meme the shit out them. Jokes lower our intellectual defenses and make us suggestible, which is the big secret behind John Oliver and his ilk.

Ask them what they would do if they were in a situation where there was a fire and you ran into the fire to rescue children. The fire is bad you might not make it out alive. You find 3 cribs with two kids in each. Two black babies, two chinese kids and two white kids. You can only possibly haul two kids out. what do you do? Ask them that. Tell them they dont need to answer out loud just answer it to yourself.

You don't have to reveal your thoughts all at once. You just drop questions, as if you, yourself are wondering. Eventually, they will ask a question and you can have the answer.

I don't like my family members (not wife and kids) as they are assholes and losers so I don't give a shit if they are "divorced" from me. I drop clues to my immediate family. They are brainwashed but coming around. I will assume you were brainwashed and woke up. How did it happen? The brainwashing is deep and is constantly being reinforced. It takes time to crack it. Make sure you have verifiable facts. Always provide evidence, not opinions. Learn. An intelligent, provable point can be very powerful.

Bringing up politics that make NPCs uncomfortable when you're drunk isn't equivalent to being ostracized for your beliefs. Your friends might not mind your opinions, but rather your forceful proclamation of them in public when they're with you. There's a time and a place for dropping red pills.
