Look at all of the phones. I remember watching some video years back, I think it was a Vice special, where they went into prisons and had prisoners show off all of the shit they get smuggled in.
Huge pile of cell phones, maybe 30-40 in one cell. Drugs of all varieties (in small amounts, but still), all kinds of contraband they are absolutely not supposed to have.
How does that shit get in there? The guards obviously take bribes and look the other way when shit gets brought in. Female staff of prisons often get seduced by a prisoner (or multiple prisoners) and start moving heaven and earth to bring them whatever they ask for. Finally, there's the ol' prison wallet- a visitor comes in and drops a balloon filled with drugs in a toilet, prisoner comes in and stuffs it up his ass, shits it out in private- boom, an eight ball of coke just got into prison.
I also remember them talking about the prices of shit. There was a nigger smoking a joint (basically right out in the open) talking about how a dime bag (normally $10) goes for closer to $50... or some kind of trade, often involving sexual favors.
The system is busted. The profession of prison guard/staff should be highly trained, highly intelligent, and supremely moral. With all of their required skills sharpened to a razor's edge, they should be paid and taken care of VERY WELL. This will drastically lower the incentive to make criminal dealings with the prisoners. There should also be a hard and fast rule where guards and staff do not speak to prisoners unless absolutely necessary, and a prisoner speaking out of turn should be heavily punished. You need to keep that hard separation between prisoner and guard painfully clear at all times.
I don't give a shit how the prisoners feel. Shouldn't have done whatever they did, now it's time to suffer.
