I have family members who served in World War ii. And I can just tell you from extensive discussions with them that as we are often told falsehoods to try to get us into wars today they also were told falsehoods that led to a combined narrative that is generally the one that is taught today but even then they did not believe it 100%. The volunteerism that happened during World War II was to avoid being drafted into the army where you'd be dying in trenches as their father's head in World War one. The election of Roosevelt was partly due to the fact that he promised to keep us out of World War II out of the next European war that people saw was clearly going to happen or might happen so the idea that everybody supported it is nonsense. So even the narrative that we're taught today was actually part of a propaganda effort that was taught to the people who fought in World War two and it's worth knowing that although it was probably more widely accepted than propaganda is today because they had fewer resources that challenged it it was not 100% accepted even then.
