I have talked to some people who remembered these rapes and how the soviet soldiers behaved after they were conquering Polish and German territory. Personally I think everybody is to blame. Germany has started the war, first soviet Russia joined Germany and until 1942 the two were allies. Only in 1942 Hitler attacked Russia so USA started supporting Russia in this conflict. Millions of people died, millions suffered. The Germans were not raping as much as the soviets did, this is true, but Germans were murdering people on massive scale through forced labour and town/cities bombardment when faced ressistance. The soviets were later doing the same + mass rapes.
