It's one of the most compelling and inspiring documentaries I've ever seen. Cinema verite, no narration, letting only the events tell the story. The editing is very even handed, giving credit to true champions who were not German because the movie wasn't about the glory of the Germans but the incredible achievements of the world's finest athletes.

One of my favorite segments is during track and field at the end of the day and the pole vaulting trials go long into the evening. It was so close for everyone participating, and the audience was enthused for every team, not just the Germans, and gave particular vocal support to the Japanese.

It's in two parts, the athletics and the artistry. Both parts are well worth watching. I saw it about four years ago and I'm due for another viewing.
