That's kinda what I was alluding to, but didn't elaborate on it. The story I heard was the singer was on the phone with their manager, and when the manager asked what their next song would be, the singer who was very drunk on wine slurred "Inagaddadavida", which was actually supposed to mean " In the Garden of Eden". The rest of story pretty much lines up with your post.
Who knows? There's probably several versions of story, but at least a couple of things are for certain, the original title was "In the Garden of Eden," and there was definitely a lot of alcohol involved. ;)
