Genesis 1:27
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

The Hebrew phrase for “image of God” is B’tselem Elohim. The Hebrew is translated as shadow, phantom, reflection. We were not created in God's image. We were created as a reflection of his spirit.

God is light, so how does a light cast a shadow?
The answer is that Light does not cast a shadow, it casts a reflection.

In a mirror light waves composed of photons are reflected back slightly weaker (the strength of the reflected waves are determined by the quality of the mirror) than the original source. A reflection does not exist in an absence of light. A reflection is light It requires a source to exist.

Exodus 34:29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord.
After seeing God, Moses reflected light to such an intensity that he had to wear a veil to shield his face from the Israelite's. They could not bear the intensity.

1 John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

(Philippians 2:15). Because God is light, those who belong to Him must shine forth His light, becoming more like Christ every day. "For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness"

Psalm 91:1
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalm 36:7

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. "wings" is the Hebrew word "kanaph," It can mean the wing of a bird, but it can also (and more often) mean the edge, extremity, or corner of something. In ancient times, the lower part of the garment, or bottom seam, was called the "wings" of the garment, In other words, the hem.

Matthew 9:18-22

18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshiped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.

20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

It is my belief unless we have the light of God ( His spirit) within us, ( reflecting the light of God in a perfect pattern) we will not be able to stand in his presence, this is not a punishment on his part, it is simply the way it is. Shadows cannot exist in light. The more of his spirit in you , the closer you can be to him, in his presence, in proximity. This does not preclude others, they will simply be distant, unable to withstand the intensity and therefore not able to completely witness the continuing creation that springs from the Most High.
