Christians believed that the world was crowded with supernatural demons. It is the Christian’s duty to root these out. Destroying a pagan statue or burning a book, then, is a no more violent act than amputating a gangrenous limb: you save the healthy whole by preventing the spread of the infection. If you think that a marble statue is possessed by a demon, then it makes sense to dig out its' eyes and score a cross in its forehead. If this means replacing a shrine with a church, then so be it.
Perhaps it can be argued that paganism was wiped out, mostly lost to the dust of time, only shreds of superstition remain today. It is the jews who were the pegans and who sacrifice babies to molloch today.
They did not, however, destroy centuries od knowledge. Avoiding the Romans’ bathhouses, dinners and spectacles is quite different than burning the so-called sacred knowledge you imagine existed. How else would we not have known Romes complete history and works, had the knowledge been burned? That is superstition. So much so, one wonders if it is you who is the ((pegan)) and still upset at the assault on your people and deities.
Your argument seems to boil down to to "it could have existed, but doesn't, therefore it was destroyed."
Look again to see who is brainwashed.
You remind me of the time in 3rd grade, my teacher warned of how Hitlrr once burned books and paintings. When I asked what the books were about, my teacher only said "they were great books." Only later did I realize what "great books" really meant. I'm sure, they enjoyed pretending Hitler set man back centuries by burning those books. Which we know to be a fable.
So it is the hatred and villainization of hitler that causes them to think poorly. Much like it is your hatred of Christians that has forced you to say stupid things.
