In today's day and age, if one was incredibly narcissistic and thought he could force God's hand, he might try to bring about the end of days. There are four horsemen of the Apocalypse: War, Famine, Disease, and Pestilence. A small cabal of men would have a hard time creating global war, famine, or pestilence, but disease can now be made in a lab to order.

I think COVID-19 was intended to kick off things, but mutated and failed miserably, so plan B was to turn it into a profit machine. Plan B was likely still a part of things and the noney would be used to further secure the future of the additional horsemen. I believe the next peice will be an insect genetically modified to feed us all and, whoops, it got loose. All your crops are eaten, etc. They probably have the DDT all ready stored up somewhere.

On the other hand, I'm wrong a whole lot.
