THE WRECK OF THE EDMUND FITZGERALD

Regarding the rendition of Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", one word, futile, there'll never be another song that compares.

I remember that day back in 75, I was in Wawa moose hunting and I had a walking cast on a broken left leg. Buddy and I were trampling through a swamp in the area of Jimmy Cash lake and we were right on the heels of a monstrous sized bull and two cows.

It was 2.00pm and 4hrs left before dark, mixed heavy cloud and clear sky and temperature above freezing. We positioned ourselves at the swamp/bush line in wait for the moose...no sooner than we finished a sandwich we're hit with high wind, drop in temperature and flakes of snow, something wasn't right so we bailed.

Back in Wawa 2hrs later and it's miserable, by 9.00pm that night the Trans Canada hwy was closed due to windage debris, huge fallen White Pine trees right over the hwy in a number of places and there were a couple places on the Trans Canada hwy where waves went right across the hwy. The next morning we got the news that the "good ship and it's crew" went down into an ice water grave.

Gordon Lightfoot's song pretty much illustrates the last few minutes of the poor unfortunate souls aboard the ship that fateful night.
Lake Superior at night is scary, that lake on a tempest November night will forever haunt those who it does not claim.
There is only one "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", nobody will change that.

That would be like a headless body running in circles.
