Rockwell's tolerance ironically hurt him here. He was known to disagree with the Klan on Catholics. In this case he let John C. Patsalos, a son of Greek immigrants, into his group at all and thus get close to him. Some Nordic or Anglo-Saxon oriented pre-war racialist groups would not have let him join.
Rockwell, unlike other racialist leaders, was a true white nationalist. Really the forerunner of the whole movement. He believed in white unity and equality. No discrimination based on religion. Or at least against Catholics. No discrimination against wogs like Greeks or Italians. That he kicked Patsalos out was for reasons other than this basic cultural tolerance.
I mean, if anything it makes Rockwell look good. And comparatively open. And a Nazi at that. Which is interesting and not something commonly said about him. Then again, National Socialists are levelers. They don't believe in class hierarchy or caste. Just race. He took this idea a bit further than the Germans did and Americanized it but it's a basic truism.
