That plan now has come together, as the owner of 501 Bar and Grill in downtown Flint announced plans to transition the business into “The District” -- a gay/transgender/lesbian/bisexual bar and nightclub that will open in about six weeks.
“We are transitioning to a safe space for all members of the community,” Shaltz said.
Shaltz noted that 501 experienced financial pressure and it made most sense to change the bar’s focus.
At the south side doors of the 501 restaurant, the “Wiseguy side” is changing to a nightclub after 8 p.m. featuring a large dance floor. The bar side will provide lunch and dinner options.
Shaltz emphasized The District isn’t just for the gay community, but also includes transgender, lesbian and bisexuals and heterosexuals.
People of all backgrounds are welcomed.
