I’m Using This As a Teaching Moment For Goats. Lesson? Never Take in Strays

Stuff like this happens all of the time, let alone theft and disputes involving police.
I was even someone who should not have been taken in:
When I was about 19 or 20, I was between apartments and I told a co-worker Sal that my month-to-month lease was up with some jerkoff roommates I was living with.
Sal put me up. Good guy. He was only a year or so older than me. His Uncle also had a bedroom in the apartment, but he would use it only a few days a week. I think he was also staying with a girlfriend. Anyway, the Uncle was in his mid-30’s at the time and wiser than Sal. He could see that after 2 weeks of staying there that I wasn’t making any progress in finding my own place. He laid down the law. I think it was on a Monday. He told me that my last day was on Sunday. I always respected him for that. To be fair, I was overstaying my welcome. I was concentrating too much on work and not at all on finding a place. I was taking advantage—even if without malicious intent. I was turning into a cancer and the Uncle moved to excise me before I got out of hand.
Never, ever, EVER take in strays into your home. I went peaceably with a sense of appreciation for what was done for me. Probably 4 out of 5 do not. Your safety and the safety of your family is more important than some Christian value or seeking some karmic reward.
