Although the model name continued to 1999, the examples built through 1965 remain a high-water mark in stateside automotive style.

#RÜNGE "RS" Porsche Special

This video is an overview of the Runge "RS" Porsche powered Special. The "RS" is the latest handcrafted sports car from the toolroom of Chris Runge. The design process begins with an era in mind. The RS is Runge's interpretation of a late 50's racing Spyder. Influences from Italian, British and German functionality and aesthetics are combined to form this work of art.

The car features a mild steel ladder frame chassis with mid engine transaxle and engine placement. Suspension utilizes a modified VW front beam with height adjustable torsion and dampening adjustable shocks. The rear suspension also has dampening adjustable shocks with 4 points of height adjustment. The Swing axle setup utilizes custom built Runge Spring Plates.

The 4 Speed custom built transaxle is shifted via Runge designed shift linkage and gear selector.

- Transaxle features: - 4 spider super diff
- hd aluminum side cover
- tig welded 3rd and 4th gear hubs
- harden steel key ways
- steel shift forks
- hd cross shaft

3.80 1st/2.06 2nd/1.21 3rd/.89 4th/ 3.44 ring and pinion

The Engine is a James Cox built Porsche 356 Race prepped hi-compression engine producing 120HP. The RS Weighs in at 1200LBS making power to weight ratio excellent.

Braking is provided via Porsche 356B Aluminum Drums that have been modified with venting for cooling by Runge. The wheels are one-off aluminum made in Germany.

The RS has dual fuel tanks that are switch operated via a diverter valve. The Main 13 Gallon Tank features a 100MM Fuel filler with the 7 Gallon "Qualifier Tank" having a vintage Naval Flip cap filler.

The RS has dual storage compartments both front and rear providing adequate storage for longer drives and ralley events.

The body is hand formed 3003 .060" aluminum which has been Gas and TIG welded with a hand rubbed final polish. Louvers are hand formed and entirely functional to the cars mechanical systems.

Every RÜNGE KAROSSERIE build is one-off and made to order. For more information on commissioning your dream car visit RungeCars.com

I didn't use the original title that the video was posted under because it seemed a bit sensational. But Scotty does give pretty good advice.

You shouldn’t be allowed to drink and drive because your potential impairment endangers other drivers, however you should be able to reserve the right to fly through your own windshield and anything less is unAmerican.

Spain doesn't have cars     (cars)

Spain is one of the big five European countries, but it's the only one to not have own cars. Their only car is SEAT. In the beginning it was owned by FIAT, making shitty cars. Now it's owned by Volkswagen and makes good cars that are just Volkswagens with make up. I wonder why Spain can't have their own good cars, like the rest of big five have.

@UncleDoug

My ol' man, being a peacock dago, got himself a Valiant Hemi-pacer replete with stripes until more tasteful family members persuaded him to get a Peugeot 504.

Smashed garter spring on a CV axle replacement      (cars)
submitted by MaryXmas to cars 8 months ago (+7/-0)

I am replacing the front CV axels on my older Japanese car - drivers side went fine. Passenger side was leaking after a few hundred feet. I took it apart again and found a smashed garter spring right at the end of the cv axle seal. The actual deal looks ok. I am trying to find a replacement, any ideas where to get such a thing? The shops near me didn't have the axle seals so I don't think they will have a garter spring. I get the idea that this is part of the seal, is this even necessary if the seal is in place?
