Easily the most iconic hotel commercial to ever come from NYC. The second most famous being the ones for Mt. Airy Lodge, which isn’t in New York, anyway.

“Herb” was quickly appropriated by the NYC Hip-Hop crowd to be synonymous with “sucker” and can still sometimes be heard uttered as a derogatory slur to this very day.

I used to work at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Manhattan and I got a $7 meal voucher for the Beefsteak Charlie’s in the lobby for every shift that I worked.
