#St. Ignatius Loyola July 31st | Saint of the Day

Born Inigo Lopez de Loyola in 1491, the man known as Ignatius of Loyola entered the world in Loiola, Spain. At the time, the name of the village was spelled "Loyola," hence the discrepancy. Inigo came of age in Azpeitia, in northern Spain. Loyola is a small village at the southern end of Azpeitia.

Inigio was the youngest of thirteen children. His mother died when he was just seven, and he was then raised by Maria de Garin, who was the wife of a blacksmith. His last name, "Loyola" was taken from the village of his birth.

Despite the misfortune of losing his mother he was still a member of the local aristocracy and was raised accordingly. Inigio was an ambitious young man who had dreams of becoming a great leader. He was influenced by stories such as The Song of Roland and El Cid.

#St. Alphonsus Marie Liguori August 1st | Saint of the Day

Bishop, Doctor of the Church, and the founder of the Redemptorist Congregation. He was born Alphonsus Marie Antony John Cosmos Damien Michael Gaspard de Liguori on September 27,1696, at Marianella, near Naples, Italy. Raised in a pious home, Alphonsus went on retreats with his father, Don Joseph, who was a naval officer and a captain of the Royal Galleys. Alphonsus was the oldest of seven children, raised by a devout mother of Spanish descent. Educated at the University of Naples, Alphonsus received his doctorate at the age of sixteen. By age nineteen he was practicing law, but he saw the transitory nature of the secular world, and after a brief time, retreated from the law courts and his fame. Visiting the local Hospital for Incurables on August 28, 1723, he had a vision and was told to consecrate his life solely to God.

My "ex" pastor is now on my shit list     (Christianity)

Th guy is an absolute asshole to say the least. On the other hand i feel like my gf is taking what he said wayyyy too seriously. Anyways, my pastor mentioned a few things today that made me cringe inside, like badly.

I come from a very broken family. Mom was a drug addict, alcoholic, verbally and physically abusive piece of trash. My dad was the enabling type who would watch and blame me in the process because clearly im always to blame. We got blamed for everything: financial problems, marital problems, etc. My mom literally molested one of our sisters because she was bored. So the topic came up of honoring parents and that i need to honor them at all cost. I started getting very irritated at the guy, because it's one thing to honor and forgive, its another to hold yourself directly in the line of fire to prove a point.

The second thing is he equated me drinking a beer here and there or being emotional vulnerable due to the abuse i had to endure to being some kind of drunk, mentally deficient suicidal maniac. I did NOT appreciate him saying this in front of my gf, and its very clear he came into this meeting with an agenda to destroy us. He pretty much hinted i was some kind of drunk, even though I barely touch the stuff. At the time I may have had a sampler here and there, and that was about it. Followed usually by very long (multiple months at a time) periods of no drinking at all.

Anyways, he is now my ex pastor for all the damage he did, and his views. If his views are normalized across most churches, which i think they are, then its no wonder institutional churches are losing so many members. And my gf is very upset over what she heard.

Guess the denomination ...

When I first started going to church, it was a hole in the wall place in the middle of nowhere. We had our fun asking inquisitive questions, talking about White replacement, the lineage of israel in genesis, miscegenation, pedos in woodchippers. There was no limit to how out there a question could lead to an interesting debate. And yet, no one thought of me as some crazed psycho, since they were asking similar questions. Heck my first church is where i learned about the talmud! Now I will say, i know very little about the other religions, so my knowledge form my prior post was very wrong. It doesn't come from me trying to front for the jews, so much as me assuming they are lying, backstabbing assholes and not always knowing how to explain why that is.

And then i came to NYC ... And now im seen as some kind of deranged psycho monster for asking questions. I even had to tone down a lot of the questions i ask since they were considered too provocative. I was asking questions on the lineage between the pharisees and the current day jews. Immediately dismissed with a simple: different people, fuck you, stop asking. They didn't explain HOW this could be, or who the pharisees went on to become. It makes it very confusing when a pastor talks about israel (modern day) and ignores how the Bible mentions multiple tribes of Judah, Israel, Benjamites, etc, But again, the pastors in NYC don't care to explain the delineation of the tribes vs modern day jews.

It honestly feels like i went from loving church to completely hating it. And yet i know its not my faith or my belief system that's the problem. I still have my same faith in God as i did before. But it feels like im no longer compatible with the church. It frustrates me.

The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate: Israel constituted a war crime that cannot be ignored     (pic8.co)

Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Jordan is posting:

Patriarchate of Jerusalem: Israel aims to bomb church institutions that provide humanitarian services in Gaza

"The Holy Orthodox Patriarchate of the Roman Catholic Church issued a statement in which it denounced, in the strongest terms, the Israeli bombing of one of its church buildings in Gaza City.

The Patriarchate affirmed in the statement that the targeting of churches and their institutions, as well as the shelters they provide to protect innocent citizens, especially children and women who lost their homes as a result of Israeli shelling of residential areas over the past thirteen days, constituted a war crime that cannot be ignored.

The Patriarchate stressed that it would not abandon its religious and humanitarian duty deriving from its Christian values to provide all that is needed in times of war and peace alike."

I haven't looked into this much myself yet, but what are your thoughts? I've heard the argument that most of the stuff that lets EVERYONE be a Christian, the universal love, etc, stuff comes from the books he wrote.

How does one honor abusive parents     (Christianity)

I have two seperate theological ways, based off a calvinist pastor, and a non denominational pastor. The calvinist one said forgive them for yourself, never talk to them again, draw up boundaries and dont idealize them into something they could never be for you. If i feel ready to talk, than talk. And if not, that's fine too.

The non denominational pastor told me remove all boundaries, let my parents be the way they are cause they're my parents, and let myself get endlessly abused and forgive them so they can continue. Whilst I know method two is horseshit, i cant help but feel conflicted at how common this terrible advice is.

I've been using method 1 consistently for some time now, but my extended Church family has been pressuring me VERY aggressively towards method 2.

#St. Anthony of Padua June 13th | Saint of the Day

Saint Anthony was born Fernando Martins in Lisbon, Portugal. He was born into a wealthy family and by the age of fifteen asked to be sent to the Abbey of Santa Cruz in Coimbra, the then capital of Portugal. During his time in the Abbey, he learned theology and Latin.

Following his ordination to the priesthood, he was named guestmaster and was responsible for the abbey's hospitality. When Franciscan friars settled a small hermitage outside Coimbra dedicated to Saint Anthony of Egypt, Fernando felt a longing to join them.

christians of voat, is suffering "sinful"?     (Christianity)

i came across a sermon yesterday night on sermon audio and the topic of said sermon was about making heaven and christ our focus which i fully agree with. the pastor then started talk about "those people that are grumpy all day because of their suffering" and honestly i didnt like his tone. he was kind of mocking them because he says that true christians are joyful even in the most distressful of situations.

making it sound like suffering was a sin or something and them i was reminded of job, jeremiah, asaf and others that went through much suffering and the bible didnt said that they were happy all the time. specially job and jeremiah which were prophets (job talked and heard and even saw God so that qualified him as such)

the bible doesnt tell us HOW long the suffering of job lasted and ditto for jeremiah.

so can a christian be sad and suffer??

i was really surprised to hear this from a baptist pastor. usually charismatics and pentecostals holds similar views.

needless to say that as soon as i heard this i closed the sermon right away. because i dont believe this pastor is even biblical or sane for saying this

It seems where ever I go Christians get picked on. I don't punch right if you are White and you understand that you should be living your best life a good life and helping White people how ever you can then I'll never speak a mean word your way. However I'm done with the whole being needled, you should understand that if you are of the vine of Christ you have thorns and it's time to use them.
Ecclesiastes 3
8A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

If people hit you, you know them from there actions act appropriately.
