Pftt, relatives. I learned of the facebook group that traced our name back. It was much much worse that that by the time they got to the 13th century. The stories may be true (or not), but folks had to make a living. Right up to the 1850's and William's relative joining Quantrell taking Lawrence.
They wanted to be left in peace. The word of mouth from relatives along the lines of Eastwoods "Dying Ain’t Much of a Living, Boy" pretty much nailed it. The US gov trashed the west part of Missouri via illegal and immoral acts. They called it the "Burnt district" at the time. The horror of war should always be avoided. Always.
