Israel’s government is issuing “clearly illegal” orders that must not be obeyed, a group of Israeli military intelligence officers have said, announcing they will no longer participate in combat operations in Gaza.

In a letter addressed to Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the defence minister, Israel Katz, and the head of the military, the group of 41 officers and reservists said the government was waging an “unnecessary, eternal war” in Gaza.

The letter, which was shared online late on Tuesday, said the group would refuse to take part in a “war designed to preserve the rule of Netanyahu” and appease “anti-democratic and messianic elements in [his] government”.

The letter’s signatories are not named but are identified as members of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF)’s intelligence directorate, which has played a key role in the 20-month offensive in the Gaza Strip, particularly through the selection of bombing targets.

Addressing the impact of the offensive on civilians in the territory, the group wrote: “When a government acts for ulterior motives, harms civilians and leads to the killing of innocent people, the orders it issues are clearly illegal, and we must not obey them.”

The intelligence officers said Netanyahu’s government had given a “death sentence” to the Israeli hostages held by Hamas militants in Gaza when it “chose to collapse” the ceasefire deal in March.

The group, which is understood to include members of the elite military surveillance division Unit 8200, claimed that “many hostages have already been killed by IDF bombings” and accused the government of continuing to “abandon their lives”.

According to the latest figures from Gaza’s health authorities, the Israeli offensive has killed at least 55,000 people and wounded approximately 125,000. The death toll, which estimates suggest could be considerably higher, does not separate civilians from the number of militants killed.

Fifty-six hostages are still held in Gaza by Hamas militants and other armed groups after they were captured on 7 October 2023 in attacks on southern Israel that killed 1,200 people. At least 20 of the hostages are believed to still be alive, according to Israeli authorities.

Feel insecure: Another challenge outlined by Chua and Rubenfeld is that the self-esteem movement, particularly in regards to the indoctrination of it in kids, has instilled excessive amounts of preciousness to the extent many are unable to perceive or handle threats. Jews and Mormons, conversely, promote insecurity among their members and this fuels a cathexis of ambition.

For individuals, the key is to avoid complacency by vigilantly looking for threats in your pursuit of success. The more aware you are of the risk you won’t succeed, the more motivated you’ll become to try harder.

Control your impulses: This is about resisting temptation and staying focused, with the Mormons being a standout of such impulse control. The group’s teenagers, for example, are less likely to have sexual intercourse, drink alcohol, smoke pot, or watch X-rated films than teenagers of any other faith.

Zelensky falsely claimed this week that only 15% of the bodies Moscow offered to return had been identified, without clarifying whether Ukraine would accept any of them at all.

Moscow has said it is prepared to return over 6,000 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers, stored in special refrigerated trucks and trains, according to Russia’s lead negotiator, Vladimir Medinsky.

Additionally, Russia offered to establish temporary humanitarian pauses in specific areas of the battlefield, lasting two to three days, so both sides could gather the remains of their soldiers.

Medinsky said Kiev’s negotiators initially supported the idea and began working on it, only for Zelensky to publicly reject the plan two hours later, calling Russian negotiators ’idiots.’

Dmitruk accused the Ukrainian leadership of deliberately delaying the official recognition of missing soldiers to avoid paying out death benefits.

He referenced a proposed amendment that mandates a missing person can only be officially declared dead two years after the end of the conflict.

‘They’re appropriating the money that belongs to the families of the dead and wounded. Zelensky is used to stealing it via his proxies,’ Dmitruk said.

‘This law is just another way to legalize his crimes… Just imagine – two years after the end of the war, and we don’t know when and how it will end – yet they are already establishing this framework.’

Dmitruk, who once belonged to Zelensky’s Servant of the People party, described Ukraine’s current leadership as a ’party of war’ that has suppressed any dissent.

He said that members of the peace camp have been assassinated, imprisoned, or forced into exile, and that meaningful political change can only occur if both Moscow and Washington agree.

‘No good can be expected from this terrorist regime,’ Dmitruk said, arguing that only a change in government could open the way for real peace talks, and calling for an interim administration and fresh elections in Ukraine."
