In my opinion a toss-up between Sen. James K. Vardaman of Mississippi and Pitchfork Ben Tillman of South Carolina. These are the kinds of Democrats often Southern and very ignorant contemporary Republicans are talking about when they say the Democrats were the party of the KKK.
Always funny to see guys with Southern accents and Confederate ancestors calling Northern Jews, Southern blacks, and Western spics the party of racism.
A very regal portrait of Sen. Vardaman. His followers called him The Great White Chief - and proudly described themselves as rednecks. He represented the poor white farmer against the Southern elite.
