Are we the neo-punks?

submitted by fritz_maurentod to AskUpgoat 1 weekMay 7, 2024 15:41:34 ago (+8/-0)     (AskUpgoat)

When I was growing up, only punks dyed their hairs in funny colors, had piercing and tattoos, wore cheap broken clothes, were generally unkempt and didn't want to work. This is kind of the new normal nowadays, especially with women.

I keep a good haircut, wear a nice shirt every day and arrive at work on time, to express my rejection of the clown world. I feel like a neo-punk.

I think equating dressing it a certain way and keeping your parents a certain way with arriving on time or very different things. Arriving on time is a promise of honoring a promise to an employer or whoever is on the other side of your meeting. How you dress and cut your hair can be a sign of conformity which certainly in the '80s having that need haircut and a nice shirt was definitely a sign of conformity and believe me I did it. Nowadays people are a lot more free to do what the hell they want and it makes it harder to separate the lazy jerks from the people who aren't but at the same time it's really sort of more proof of true Independence and what I would call the original conservative man being an independent person guided by their own desires rather than trying to conform to others.
