This isn't quite correct. What happened is that Canada said social media sites likes Facebook have to now pay a fee to the original news content creator (typically those legacy media companies) when their content is posted to Facebook. Facebook said no way and instead banded Canadians from posting any link to a media site. Fucking hilarious actually. This means it makes it really hard to spread the government's and lame stream media propaganda around. They figured that 25% of all news was spread on Facebook in Canada and the establishment just shot themselves in the foot. This is actually a win.
