What they did also provably have (i remember reading it in msm at the time) was the worlds largest survey ship off the NZ South island coastline for 2 -3 weeks just before the quakes. This vessel drills into the ocean seabed, lays explosive mines - and then records the seismic effect of the detonation on the Earths subterrain Crust substrate. Totally not related to any actual earthquake aroiunfd the same time.
