A nation of laws that only applies to the poor and middle class. We live in a banana republic. Vigilante justice is the only true respite the average person can count on. I don't advocate it unless it's an extreme circumstance but corruption is rife and has been gaining momentum for decades.
Buying a judge or a DA isn't so difficult, a fair number of them are compromised. If they aren't compromised, they see the world with rose colored glasses.
The premise of innocent until proven guilty only works when people in positions of power act with morale virtue. Or if the local populace can hold that judge accountable. A small town might go knocking on his/her door. Narratives play a far larger role now. Heaven forbid your case gets media attention. It turns into a shit show with narrative pushing dogma. The media viewers invariably make their way onto juries with their indoctrination complete. Your jury will be made up of 50% women who are emotional creatures; your presumed innocence goes right out the window. Imagine if you have a resting mean face or don a scraggly beard, they won't like you from the start
