EDIT: After contemplating the amazing example of stupidity that this article is, I believe it's time we start defining the treason that's occurred here, and also what we will actually do about it. For instance, what is the proper punishment for a traitor?
Do you remember when that Atlantic writer asked for a Covid amnesty? This article is of a similar vain. An attempt at a mea culpa without ever admitting fault. They were a victim of their circumstances don't you see!? Can't we just put it all behind us? They know how precarious their situation is, and they're scared. An entire generation of fighting age young men are about to enter adulthood who have polled more right wing than any in multiple generations. These young men will enter a world with less opportunity, higher inflation and lower quality of life than any since the greatest generation. The economic situation will likely only deteriorate further, which does not bode well for the "cultural elite" who merely inherited power they do not know how to wield, much less retain.
