That headline is taken out of context. His main point was that modern blacks in America are better off today in America than they would be in Africa, so reparations don't make sense. That's true.
He then went down a line of thinking where the counter-argument is that Africa is only worse off today because of slavery, but then his response to that is that a) Africans themselves were slavers, and b) to be consistent, you'd have to remove ALL slavery across the world to see where we'd end up, and then we'd be in an alternate universe where we didn't even exist. So it's better to exist, and hence the headline.
Yeah, it got pretty goofy at the end. Of course the main point is ignored, and the silly hypothetical becomes the headline.
