It's funny how that deal worked out, the Aztecs worshiped Mictlantecuhtli aka DEATH while the Mayans worshiped various DEATH gods Ah Puch, Ah Cimih, Ah Cizin, Hun Ahau, Kimi, or Yum Kimil Keep in mind here even modern occultists believe that there are 72 demons that fell with Satan and primarily choose one as their own although this is not all encompassing of the way these demons deceive people about who they are. So the Conquistadors roll up and convert the Aztecs and Mayans to Catholicism but they still want to worship their various forms of DEATH and they see the Catholics worshiping the "Saints" and go Ah Hah! We will worship "Saint Death" just as the Catholics worship their dead before God and such is my story of the creation of Santa Muerte.
Why is this relevant? What do these worshipers of Death bring to your area? Hard Drugs? They bring Death to your people? And we only need to look to Revelation 20:14 to see what is prophesied of them. In all honesty I think that Santa Muerte's promise of safe travel to the afterlife is a promise that will be upheld, and obviously these people will be judged individually but I suspect for most of them their afterlife will be one filled with the gnashing of teeth.
