Jesse said repeatedly that it is impossible to get any higher then govoner in the US without selling out. This is why he claims to not had continued climbing the ladder.
I don't know for sure about the controlled opposition thing, but as he isn't an any position to do much of anything, I tend to think he probably wouldn't take the 30 shekels and so was shown the door.
