Eventually, he prevailed because he wouldn’t stop talking about how suspicious it was that this idea was being blocked. Paul went to Fort Knox twice with his committee of auditors and they wouldn’t let them into the vault. They were let into an antechamber and shown a single pallet of gold bars. There should have been hundreds of pallets. That’s as far as they got.
It’s possible that reverting to the gold standard would make the dollar worthless, because our gold doesn’t exist.
