The closest thing to it we have in the west are Catholic processions for a saint or to mark a holy season. A statue of a Christian saint is erected on a liter and carried down the main streets on that particular saints feast day. Some are loud and boisterous celebrations like Mardi Gras or NYC's Thanksgiving day parade, while others are solemn and peaceful like a good Friday procession. They're usually part memorial, part celebration. In part, they're an adaption of Roman European public worship traditions adapted by converts to Christianity which have been passed down to us.

The Japanese do something similar, but the statue is going to be either a massive penis with testicles, a vagina, or both. As for Japanese gay pride parades, they aren't too dissimilar to the ones we used to have in the U.S. around the 1950's. Very orderly, peaceful, with a few guys dressed as geisha and some people carrying signs with website addressed for people to get more information. Nothing like the open air orgies which we have today where pedos openly celebrate the government sanctioned abuse of children.
