Sounds about right. Many moons ago, back when schools were mostly White, and you could beat a bully down without going to jail, I went to a good number of different schools (military fam).
Most of what I learned were from the books I brought in from outside of school. Almost universally the teachers were dumber than I was, and usually by a large margin. They get angry when you turn in an entire "year's worth" of material in the first week.
So I learned to just live with the slow, agonizing idiocy surrounding me and doling out my work/extra credits over the year along with every other drooling idiot. A good point is that it was easy to trick the teachers, so I could usually just do what I wanted, and that when they saw the all-A-grade kid reading (while ignoring them) they thought it was a good thing.
Point is, public schools have always sucked and they've always been nothing but a mental torture prison for children.
I still wouldn't have gone to these new schools however. I was a such a little shit back then I simply wouldn't have attended. I don't think I would have survived without jail time otherwise.
