We should have just carpet bombed them when they were conveniently bunched up along the border, while preparing for their "military exercise". Amassing an army of that size on the border to a country you've been threatening is in itself an act of war, and sufficient casus belli by all conventions and standards. A preemptive strike would have been fully justified.
Would have been cheaper and more effective. No lengthy conflict, no food shortage, no double-edged sanctions, no escalating crisis. Putin wouldn't have done shit. Couldn't do shit, if he wanted to, with 80% of his entire army reduced to smoldering ruins.
But our governments are full of women and weaklings, who only know how to oppress and terrorize their own citizens, and nothing of how to deal with a real threat.
