Yes they did start the war. Actually they started it in 1938 first by annexing Austria and later Czechia. The NSDAP had a clear plan of takin over Europe step by step. One of the reasons for their plan was how corrupt and controlled by outsiders Germany was. They wanted a new world, world without Jews corrupting their country, world where the lesser races would serve a great and powerful Germany. They had their reasons to start this war, but they did start it none the less.
