It's not an idiotic leftist claim, there are manifests of the ships and records from the magistrates in England stating what the crimes were. Most were arrested and sent to the penal colony of NSW for simply being Irish or stealing a loaf of bread quite literally, sometimes they had a shop in the path of a new train line or punched a corrupt coppa.
