The community as a whole used to be able to say "we don't like or trust this" when youtube promoted some piece of shit content from a moneyed interest. Now they can't. Now you just see a meaningless number that indicates people like the thing. That's all.
Same reason Netflix got rid of ratings and reviews; now all they do is pump out shitty content and pretend people like it.
