Did it take you this long to figure this out? Regardless- glad you're finally here. To be honest I find they usually start shows "normal"ly and then they get superkiked. They count on us connecting with the characters, and expect us to "forgive their transgressions" in later seasons and keep watching and getting subversive programming. I remember when I first REALLY recognized it watching "Weeds". Funny and interesting at first, a mama trying to support her family selling weed. Then, suddenly, she's getting fucked in an alley by some druglord... while her brother is using his fucked up foot to fuck girls in porn...
Honestly, I never watched Rick and Morty, besides the first episode- where, if I remember correctly, the grandpa who constantly has a runny nose (coke head?) made his grandson put a huge seed up his ass? PUT SEED (sperm?) UP A KIDS ASS??? I get it- South Park also did butt-alien-stuff on the first episode- but the first episode of South Park was in 1997, whereas the first Rick and Morty episode was from 2013. So comparitively- Parker and Stone were 28yr and 26yr when their show premiered, Harmon was 40!! when Rick and Morty premiered.
I did really like the Dan Harmon show called HarmonQuest, which was a hilarious animated Dungeons and Dragons gameshow with a new celebrity guest each week. Then my husband and I started noticing they were doing some gross shit, like one of the male D&D characters would jerk off another one... when we started doing our research, we found out that Dan Harmon did a skit in 2009 about crawling through a window and RAPING A BABY... so... you know....
