For any map to form a sphere/globe in reality there would need to be continous curvature at all times, no hills, no valleys, no mountains and the horizon would always fall far below eye level. Especially from ground level. When you look far out into the distance, the ground should never ramp up to eye level, as being on a theoretical sphere then we are always at the highest point of said theoretical sphere.
