Whenever I see someone who has published 150+ papers at perhaps mid-career, I can pretty reliably say they were doing unsubstantial research (read as: soft 'science'). Extracting meaningful work from a mature subject matter is just too difficult to do that much unless you are (a) in a field mostly full of speculative bullshit and soft/easy methods or (b) are in an advanced state of your career (prof. emeritus perhaps) where it is accepted you have the latitude to just talk.

The academy today is such a clusterfuck - which is not to say there aren't still good things happening. But I feel as if a lot of departments (humanities and soft sciences esp.) have basically just grown off their own insulated audiences sniffing their own farts. Organizational behavior is such a good candidate here.
